Have you ever felt that food was delicious when someone else prepared for you?
If your answer is positive, read this phenomenon for NY Times explained by a well-known psychologist Daniel Kahneman:
As you prepare your sandwich, you are thinking about what it will be like later on. And when you think about some food for a long time you become "less hungry" for that particular food. There is some sort of saturation, for example, when people are able to eat dessert after they could not even eat a piece of steak. When another person makes us a sandwich he is not "pre-consumed" in such a way.

And researchers from Carnegie Mellon University believe that if we look at the sandwich for a while, it becomes less unusual and less desirable. A similar phenomenon occurs when we are exposed to a certain amount of food for a long time, eg the fifth bit of chocolate is usually less tasty than the first one. They have proved this by a series of experiments - the more participants imagined consuming certain foods, the less likely they would later eat it.
